Children in Need

The Kingfishers came dressed in spotty clothes and with whacky hair to raise money for Children in Need today. Thank you to the parents/carers for supporting this worthwhile cause - the children looked fantastic and contributed generously.

2D Shapes

In Maths this week, we have been learning about properties of 2D shapes. We can now describe them well, as well as sorting them. We have learnt how to accurately create our own Venn diagrams and sort a range of 2D shapes in this way. We have also challenged ourselves with some mastery and reasoning activities - please take a look in our books for our fantastic reasoning skills.

Traditional Tales

This week's English lessons have focused on traditional tales, including Little Red Riding Hood. We looked at the classic story and adapted our own writing of it - for instance, we created a range of exciting vocabulary to describe the settings and characters. One child wrote: "The evil wolf brushed through the delicate and fragile cobwebs on the ancient cottage door." Wow!

Here is a picture of a story map we created, to help retell key parts of the plot:

Famous People

Our topic learning for this term moves from Queens and Castles onto Famous People. We will soon be sharing our new learning of famous people from the past, so please check back soon!

Watch out Wyberton - a dragon is on the loose!

Following the discovery of the dragon eggs earlier on in the term - and the appearance of a dragon on the CCTV in the early hours of the morning - Year 2 have adopted the career of journalists! After learning the features of newspapers, as well as planning and drafting our own, we published our newspapers. Take a look in our classroom for our report display - keep an eye out for our speech marks, question marks, captions and short, engaging headings.
